Description:

This proportional fan controller runs the fans at the speed required to stabilize the engine (water) temperature.  There is a 20 degree spread in sensing for speed controll.  The fan speed goes from minimum speed (at the low temperature set point) and adjusts to maximum as the temperature exceeds 20 degrees past the minimum set point.  This controller uses the latest in solid state technology to prevent noise and surges to the vehicle electrical system.

Model: I-FAN2 Specifications:

Dual Fan Controller for automotive use.

Hi/Low Temperature selection.  Low select is 175 degees, high select is 195 degrees (start fan temperature).  The switch is a small slide switch with a small access hole in the front ot the fan controller for selection.

12-15 Volt Input

Dual 30 amp outputs.  'Pulse Width Modulated' for controlling the motor speed. Note: Outputs are good for excess of 100 amps peak or (momentary surge).

Temperature Sensing (temperature sensor provided).  To be installed in the water sensing system.  See temperature sensor below.

A/C (Air Conditioning) input. This input select meduim speed for fan2. Even in cold weather, if the defrost in the car is turned on, then the air conditioning is turned on to help dry the air.  The condenser still needs air flow to prevent heat buildup.

Operation:  When the power from the battery is connected to the relays, and no ignition input is provided, no power us consumed by the fan controller.  When ignition input is turned on, the fan controller monitors the temperature sensor and the A/C (air conditioning) input signal.  If the A/C input is applied, then fan 2 is run at medium speed.  If the temperature sensor reaches the minimum setting (high-low range), then Fan 1 is turned on.  The voltage to the motor is gradually increased from minimum to the low speed setting.  This action prevents surge to the electrical system in the vehicle.  If the A/C input is not applied, then both fans 1 and 2 are run at the same speed.  If A/C input is applied, then fan 1 runs by the temperature sensing untill the speed of fan 1 matches the speed of fan 2.   Then any increase in temperature, will cause both fans to accelerate proportional the the increase in engine temperature.

When Ignition Input is removed: If fan 1 was running due to engine temperature, then the fan is held at the speed reached prior to turning the ignition off.  The hold duration is 2 minutes.  If the ignition is re-applied during this time, the fan is temporarily stopped.  This way the fan controller removes the load of the fans during the high current requirement for the starter.   After another 2 minutes (allowing for engine to stabilize) the fans are then re-connected and run at the appropriate speed for the temperature sensing.

Electrical System Protection: The power to the fans has a safety relay in series with the battery supply.  The relays are switched in and out when there is no power being supplied to the fan motors (the solid state drive circuitry is turned off).  This prevents electrical surge currents as well as voltage spikes to the vehicle electrical system.  Also, an electrical 'noise' filter is connected at all times.  This noise filter will help with other noise generating devices in the vehicle.

Temperature Sensor  Currently, we have 1 sensor probe consisting of a 3/8 NPT threaded fitting.  Sensor should be attached to water manifold using a 3/8 NPT threaded hole.  Note: Hole may have to be drill and tapped.   The cable is 6 feet long and can be coiled to store excess cable.

Please make inquiries as to other sensor adaptations.  IE, metric threaded.
